Equipment a low speed vehicle needs

A golf cart becomes a street legal low speed vehicle (LSV) when it has the equipment the federal LSV standard (49 CFR 571.500) lists: headlamps, front and rear turn signals, stop lamps, tail lamps, reflex reflectors, a parking brake, a rearview mirror, a windshield, seat belts at every seat and a VIN. In Florida it also needs a title, a plate and insurance.

16 parts on this page are marked LSV requirement in their catalog entry, from $8.50. 11 are in stock today. Mirrors, belts and reflectors are the usual first purchases.

Questions

What makes a golf cart street legal in Florida?

It must meet the low speed vehicle equipment standard: headlamps, turn signals, stop and tail lamps, reflectors, a parking brake, a rearview mirror, a windshield and seat belts at every seat, plus a VIN. It is then titled and plated as an LSV and insured.

Do LSV tires need to be DOT rated?

If your cart is registered as a Florida LSV, its tires need DOT certification to stay road legal. See the DOT street legal tires.

Can you install LSV equipment?

Yes. Book a repair evaluation on the service page and the shop quotes the install before any work starts.
